Office Conversations

When did it become commonly acceptable to swear in the office?

I'm not talking about the occasional obscenity muttered to one's self, or four-letter words popping out in a casual conversation with a coworker. I mean talking about someone's "god-damn order", or saying "we aren't cleaning up after their shit!" It just occurs to me that at one point in time, it wasn't considered appropriate to refer to your coworkers or their work in such a vulgar way. Now no one bats an eye when someone says things like that.

Am I the only person who finds that inappropriate?

Edit: LiveJournal's spellchecker doesn't recognize "shit" as a correctly spelled word. Interesting.
