Yet More With The Perspective
Yet another voice of calm and logic in the midst of all the media headlines: Nagasaki survivor: People seem 'too sensitive'

Because Japan really is the country with the most direct experience on radiation exposure.

Actually, yes, they are. It's pretty incredible. The news will track down experts who say "This is not Chernobyl", and "The US is in absolutely no danger", and then as soon as the expert is gone, the news switches back to a map of the "radioactive cloud" moving across the Pacific, or a headline about "Desperate measures at demolished nuclear plant". It's such a mixed message I'm not surprised some people are getting panicked by it. Plus, with something like radiation it's such an unknown for so many people that it's easy for conspiracy theorist to run wild, and for the "they're not telling us everything" contingent to actually get listened to. It's part of why I'm posting so many links with the theme of "calm down, it's not the end of the world" and showing real-life examples of how we've dealt with things much worse than the current crisis and survived to live long, cancer-free lives. It's the only way I can think of to combat the tsunami of panic our press is causing.
