USGS lists that half an hour after the initial 9.0 shock there was a 7.9 'quake, followed ten minutes later by a 7.1. I'm wondering if the two large shocks so soon after the initial one contributed to the severity of the tsunami?

The frequency and severity of the aftershocks is coming down. But I bet folks in the area will be very glad once the ground Knocks It Off.

Interesting. My sense is yes, that the additional earthquakes were contributors to making the tsunami worse. And I read that the aftershocks can happen for the next year.

Yeah, I figure they're going to have a lot of shakes to come. The only comforting things about a 9.0 'quake is that you know it's not a fore-shock.
