I've been enjoying Atsu Hime vastly more than I expected to, and it's actually gotten me interested in trying to sort out the history/politics of the Meiji Restoration.
(And Kobayakawa Hideaki? *That* should prove intriguing -- and tells me that we're going to be spending a lot of time with the politics down in Osaka than out in backwater Echigo. Shirota Yuu as Sanada Yukimura will bring some of the plot back northwest. Hm, and if we're dealing with the Sanada and we're dealing with Sekigahara (as indicated by Kobayakawa Hideaki) then maybe we'll get to see the seige of Ueda Castle! SWEET!!!!)
In unrelated news, gee, I feel like a dork. I hadn't realized before that the family names of the non main characters in 3-D in Gokusen are all surnames from famous Sengoku families. (Okay, "Oishi" is probably a reference to Oishi Kuranosuke, the leader of the 47 Ronin, which is a bit post-Sengoku. But the rest of them fit.) Their personal names are all the personal names of the actors playing them, likely done for convenience on the set I assume.
Okay. Seriously. Enough with the history geeking, I need some breakfast. And then I must away to look at pretty quilts.
