Thanks to roseembolism volunteering to help dig an outdoor Japanese bath in my backyard if he's allowed to use it I'm now seriously considering putting one in. I've been thinking about it for days now, and even paced out where it would go, and what some of the landscaping around it would look like, and oh, that fence is much, much too short so I'll have to figure something out about that and --

Clearly, I've gone completely insane.

I can give you the contact info for the landscapers who did the backyard at Maine Coon Manor...

Yeah, I figure there will be a lot of learning regarding plumbing, how to make a tub, and some wiring. (Since I figure that light would be kind of nice to have.) Fortunately on the wiring I can poke my dad, who has familiarity with it, and might be able to lean on a cousin of mine who's a professional electrician.

For fertilizer, I know of a place up in Palo Alto that gives or sells stuff out of the stables. Also, I know in Sunnyvale they run a public compost pile. I'm assuming that Santa Clara does the same thing -- and if it doesn't, I bet we could trade dirt-fetching services with obsessivewoman in exchange for access to the Sunnyvale pile. The rest... may require some creativity.

Not being familiar with Japanese outdoor baths... is this sort of like a hot tub?

More or less, yeah.
