"New Orleans is an affront to nature, and nature isn’t shy about reminding New Orleans of it."

An intriguing first sentence. The article, I think, was well worth the read.

On a related note, I was surprised to see Lafcadio Hearn mentioned in connection with New Orleans, since I more usually associate him with his works on Japan. Nonetheless, it appears that he wrote a story about New Orleans, Chita.

Another interesting one is Should New Orleans Get Rebuilt And Who Should Pay For It?, which has the purely economic perspective. I think it would benefit from a look at similar risk-balancing in other parts of the country, though.

Another interesting prospect: design the city to be flooded.
