Too Many Syllables
I'm watching a NASCAR news program -- don't ask me why. (I'm blaming it on being sick. Or trying to figure out why NASCAR is so exciting. Or something.)

They interviewed someone and commented that tomorrow is the first day of spring. "Oh yeah," said the interviewee. "It's the vernal equinox."

"Wow," I thought. "He said some mighty fancy words there."

I thought I was just being snide. Y'know, getting out my shotgun and shooting some fish in a barrel. And yet...

A couple of minutes later the program cut back to the show commentators. One of them commented"When Kenny Edwards said the words 'vernal equinox', Carl said 'Man, can they say that on TV?'"

*twitch* *twitch*

I still don't understand why NASCAR is so popular.

Because we are not the general public. The general public thinks those commentators are witty.
