Color Me, Again, Surprised
Caught two more episodes of Power Rangers RMP now that I'm back and am willing to devote Tivo space to it. It's... Well, it's shockingly enjoyable. I saw two episodes today, which managed to be cheesy in a good way and yet did useful character exploration. On characters who I don't want to knife. Um, wow.
One of the episode had apt jabs at a few of the sentai cliches. Like, for example, the following exchange:
Ebil Bad Woman (to Ranger Blue): Red's perfect, Black's broody and angsty, Green's comic relief and Yellow, well, she's the girl. But what are you?
Ranger Blue: I'm Scottish!
They asked about why, after they transform, explosions appear behind them ("Is that going to happen a lot? Like, will that happen if I'm in the kitchen or something?"), which ended up getting a remotely plausible techno-babble answer that worked in as a plot point later on in the episode. It was... almost clever.
There was a line somewhere that I actually took bonk from, but I can't remember it now. (Probably fortunate.) But yeah. Go watch it if you're cheesefully inclined. It's actually kinda worth it.
(I post about this, but I didn't get around to posting about Igarashi enacting Yoshitune at a recent historical reenactment parade? Gah!)
