Both halves of
toothycat are now gone, winging their way back to the U.K. We had a wonderful time during their visit, discovering a lot of places around SoCal that we'd never been to before! You know how it is... you never play tourist in your own backyard.
On Monday we drove up some very twisty roads first to Lake Arrowhead, and then to Big Bear. Spectacular views. Terrifying signs about ice and snowplow rights. Fortunately Wonderful Husband didn't ask me to take over driving until we were back on flat lands. ^_^;;
Tuesday we drove down to San Juan Capistrano and toured the mission. I'd actually been there once before... when I was twelve or so, maybe? Long enough that I only remembered having been there, not actually anything about being there. The ruins of the stone church are impressive... I wonder if being in Rome feels a little like that, maybe?
And yesterday, after a leisurely brunch, we went to the Getty Museum. While it's not spectacular in the way the Louvre is spectacular, it is nonetheless definitely a world-class museum. I admit to inner squees over the various porcelain teacups, and the sheer variety of desks they had on display was amazing.
And then this morning, parting came, and tomorrow we're back to work. On the other hand, we'll see our guests again in about a month and a half, when it'll be our turn to be their guests! So for today Wonderful Husband and I are vegging, doing laundry and the dishes I didn't get around to washing yesterday, and I'm doing a little bit of gardening, though this weekend will probably be devoted more seriously to that task.
