And Yet, Doesn't Look Good On A Resume
I am coming to realize that "I follow Ultraman series'" is an excellent qualification for translating technical Japanese. And yet, so not something I can really put on a resume.

This post brought to you by realizing that, yes, I do know the Japanese word for "quantum physics", and yes, it's because of Ultraman series'.

Maybe something to mention in interview so they can go, wow, Ultraman! Btw, Friday evening or Sunday sometime?

Ooh, tough options, since I've got something on both days. :P Sunday I have a party, which you are invited to! (Providing anyone remembers... must send out reminders.)

Uh, no. Ultraman does not need to come up in job interviews. Unless I'm interviewing with Tsuburaya.

I remembered the Sunday party late yesterday too. Saw it in my calendar. Friday no go? :/ I guess we'll have to put it off another week? Gee, can't believe how life gets in the way of things.

And yet it'd be so cool to work for Tsuburaya provided they paid you enough.

I have some weeknights free if you wanted to try that? It's only an hour and a half long.

Hm, and now that I think about it, I need to check with my Friday night peoples. Given that they're down with something nasty, I'm thinking Friday might work after all. Let me follow up with them and get back to you.

I'm hoping in a few more years I won't have to be paid as much, which will allow me more flexibility in where I can work and what I do. OTOH, "a few more years" likely means at least ten. :P

Will wait to see about Friday then. Weeknights are just so bleh for me.

And then there's the polishing swords on pension if such a thing exists in our time.

For your resume:

--
Hobbies:
Translating difficult technical Japanese programs into English for personal pleasure and keeping knowledge of Japanese current.
--

My guess is when they ask you about it, they'll get a good laugh in the interview and remember you.

That's an excellent way to phrase it in a way that puts a positive spin. Thanks! :)

Remeber me... like the interview that started out with "You used to work for LucasArts, huh? I was playing Secret of Monkey Island and when I click on the stump..."?

Oooh. Tell me what "quantum physics" is in Japanese please?
