Anyone Up For Some Educational Depression?
I'd like to see Nanking and am looking to see if anyone would be interested in joining me. All reports I've seen say it's excellent. It's only playing at the Camera 12 in San Jose on this end of the Bay, so maybe after work one night, catch dinner and then a movie...?

Alas, if I were in the area I would totally be up for it.

Thoughts on when? I've got time this weekend, if that works for you?

Either Thursday or Sunday is good for me. The evening showings are at 6:35 and 8:45. If we're doing it on Thursday then the 6:35 would probably be better, I think. (Don't want to stay out too late on a school night.) Otherwise, there is Sunday.

Actually, come to think of it, Thursday is Chinese New Year, and I think I'd like to avoid starting the year off with something like Nanking. Particularly since we're also starting a new turn on the cycle. I'm free if you want to do something upbeat and fun, though.

Thoughts on time? Since it's a school night, I'd prefer not to do the 8:45 show, which leaves us with 4-ish, or 6:30.

I'm up for it. Whenever is best for you and others should be fine with me. And you'll have to forgive me if it temporarily brings out an anti-Japanese sentiment in me. I still remember when sis got chewed out for wearing an anime shirt when visiting the grandparents. More likely, it'll bring out my hatred for men or maybe for humanity as a whole. Then I'll just have to turn to the Ultramen for inspiration.

Nah, it'll just bring out your hatred for Ryuu. ;)

Seriously, though, I think it perfectly understandable bringing out bad feelings toward the Japanese. The Japanese treatment of folks during WWII was so bad that resentment on it lingers even today.

Nah, aside from his many character flaws, Ryuu's actually a pretty good guy. I'd like to think he wouldn't get caught up in the raping and pillaging. He is military though so he might have institutionalized sex if ordered to by his commander.

Yup. And even then, well, really, the blame should go to the higher ups. Take the Japanese women for example. Since most of them weren't involved directly in the war, half the Japanese are readily forgivable. Between bombing civilians and interning Japanese Americans without just cause, I can't say the US is much better. I suppose that's why I say I'm more likely to blame men in general. They tend to be the ones starting and prolonging wars. Maybe it's just because women don't have enough power in society to be the ones to blame.

And completely unrelated, my only comfort about Aya calling Sakomizu Sakocchi is that at least she didn't call him Shingo. (Rewatching movie as you can tell.) Must admit, when starting Mebius, I used to think of him as Shingo because, well, it was an easier name for me to remember thanks to our Night Kid. And yet, Jack/Goh is the race car driver. Seemed terribly funny to me at that time.
